IERCE 2012

Learn the Trends, Challenges & Opportunities in the Multi billion Dollar Electronics Recycling Industry at IERCE 2012

By: Ismail Oyekan, IERCE

The volume of end of life electronic assets, IT assets & network infrastructure is growing faster than any other waste stream inNorth Americaand across the rest of the globe.

How can the Information technology reseller community profit from this trend?

Information on the electronics recycling industry is really hard to find. Most IT asset managers & resellers have little or no idea what the fair market value of their electronic waste is or more importantly how to select a credible environmentally responsible vendor for their electronics recycling needs.

The electronics recycling industry is now an emerging $5 billion dollar plus industry according to latest estimates. There are an estimated 2,500 companies inNorth Americathat collect, process or broker electronics waste. Not bad for an industry that did not exist 15 years ago and barely came to the spotlight less than a decade ago.

Why do they do it? The truth is there is a significant amount of gold, silver, copper, platinum and other valuable commodities in that growing pile of obsolete and/or end of life electronic waste sitting in your warehouse now.  Even the plastics are worth money.

Reuse is and will always be the most important component of the electronics recycling. Most electronics recyclers will salvage items that they can identify an end user for. As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another’s treasure. Working closely with electronics recyclers is a smart way to source cheap inventory and make a decent profit.

How can you meet electronics recyclers and learn more about this lucrative industry. There is good news!
